Bullying Essay
By Kate Pike
One of the major problems that teens worry about today is bullying. Thousands of teens are becoming victims of bullying everyday. Bullying is a big problem in teens’ lives. Bullying can trigger low self-esteem and depression, and many other mental health problems in teens. It can also cause teens to feel the need to be isolated from other people in fear of being bullied. There are a lot of things that adults can do to help put an end to bullying and help the victims of bullying as well. Adults can develop a relationship with them, or find someone who can help them and give the bully a consequence.
Bullying is a form of abuse. Bullying isn’t just physical, it can also be verbal, done over the internet, or even cell phones. Victims of bullying are at higher risks of developing low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety disorders. Teens who are bullied may also become more isolated from other people or become violent towards other people. Teens that develop depression because of bullying are known to commit suicide or have major anxiety attacks. Teens who are being bullied feel the need to stay isolated from other people in fear that they will be bullied. The effects of bullying as a teen are not temporary, the effects can last a person’s whole life. Their life can be altered even as they get older. They might still feel the need to be isolated and feel as though they are being judged by everyone, afraid that they will still be a victim of bullying. The depression and anxiety may also last their whole life if they don’t seek medical help for it.
It is sometimes hard for parents to admit that their child is a bully, or is a victim of bullying. Most parents think that their children are the best behaved children and fail to see what they are really doing or what is really being done to them. When adults think a child is getting bullied they should step in right away to try and stop the issue. Adults also need to try and form a relationship with teens that they feel might have a problem with bullying in order to get them to feel comfortable talking to someone about their problem. When adults talk to that person they should try and make them feel better and make them feel as though they are there to help them. If they are not able to help that student stop the bully first-hand they should find someone that can. The person that is there to stop the bullying first hand should also give the bully a consequence for their actions.
In conclusion, bullying is a big problem in teens’ lives, and the effects don’t just effect them temporarily, the victims are effected their whole life if they aren’t helped. There are a lot of things that people can do in order to stop bullying and make everyone feel safe. Everyone should be aware of bullying and put an end to it. Bullying does not make you a better person, it only hurts others.

Cyberbullying
I publish pictures.
Personal Publishing is distributing your personal opinions or information onto a website. It allows you to post your opinions, personal information, or interests and get feedback and opinions from other people.
Some of the risks that come with personal publishing are posting bad pictures or bad information that can get spread around the internet. Things that you post on the internet can stay there for a long time and could someday cost you a job or something else important. Some things that are posted on the internet can be offensive to other people and not all of the information on the internet is accurate.
- I don’t think anyone would be hurt or embarrassed by something that I posted on Facebook.
- I have all of my profiles set on private. The only people that can see my blog are the people on the wiki, and the only people who can see my Facebook are the people who are on my friends’ list.
- I don’t think they would be offended because I’ve never posted anything bad.
- What are some of the negative effects that cyberbullying can have on a person? Cyberbullying has many effects on people. It brings down self esteem. People who suffer from cyberbullying don’t want to go to school or are afraid of going to school or other places because they don’t feel safe. Many become depressed and experience suicidal thoughts or actions.
- Where does cyberbullying commonly occur? Cyberbullying commonly occurs where most teenagers interact. Such as chat rooms and in recent years Youtube, Facebook and Myspace. Email and texting is also a common place teenager’s experience cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is starting to occur in online gaming sessions.
- How much cyberbullying is out there? About 20% of the over 4,400 randomly chosen people 11-18 year olds say that they have been a victim to cyrberbullying sometimes in their life. Approximately the same amount of people admit to cyberbullying someone else. About 10% of 11-18 year olds say that they have been both a victim and an offender.
- How is cyberbullying different from traditional bullying? Cyberbullying is different from traditional bullying because usually the person being bullied doesn’t even know who the bullies are or why they are bullying them. The cyberbullier can hide their real name using online screen names or blocked numbers. Everyone knows about cyberbullying because everyone can see it with just a few clicks. Cyberbullying is considered easier because it is done electronically and the bully doesn’t have to see the response of the target. Cyberbullying is harder to keep track of and find by teachers and parents because they may not be as involved in technology as the teens are.
- Why is cyberbullying becoming a major issue? Cyberbullying is becoming a major issue because more kids are using computers and cell phones and have more access to the sites in which cyberbullying is occurring.
- What are the biggest challenges in the fight to stop cyberbullying? One of the major challenges in trying to stop cyberbullying is that most people don’t see the harm in it because they can’t see the target’s reactions first hand. Most parents say that they don’t have the technological skills to keep up with the technology that their kids are using. Law enforcement usually doesn’t get involved because there is no apparent crime or threat of someone’s personal safety. To try and stop cyberbullying everyone needs to get involved and try to create an environment where kids feel comfortable talking about it and feel that there are things being done to help them.
- Are there any warning signs that might indicate cyberbullying is occurring?
- What can parents do? Some of the warning signs of cyberbullying are when he/she: stops using their cell phone or computer, appears to feel nervous or jumpy when a message appears on their phone or computer, appears uneasy about going into public or to school, appears to be angry, depressed, or frustrated after using the computer or cell phone.
- What should schools do to prevent cyberbullying? Schools should review harassment and bullying policies. Schools should also inform the people in the school of responsible internet use and teach the students that all bullying is wrong and they will get disciplined.
- What should schools do to respond to cyberbullying? Schools should work with the parents to try and get cyberbullying under control. School workers and faculty members should try to get to the bottom of all cyberbullying acts and try to put a stop to them, and discipline the one who was bullying.
- How is cyberbullying and school climate related? They’re related because good class climate results in better attendance and high student achievement but if kids are getting bullied they will be to scared to come to school and we be focused enough to study to do good in school.
- What can youth do? Youth should find an adult that they feel comfortable talking to about anything. They should also discuss with their parents what websites they use and why they use them.
- What can bystanders do? Bystanders usually don’t say anything to try and stop cyberbullying but they should say something to an adult when they see it and note the time and date and where they say it. They should also stand up for the victim because usually the victim feels helpless and just needs someone to stick up for them.
- What can law enforcement do? Law enforcement need to keep up with the technology and local laws so they can step into cyberbullying situations when needed. If the situation doesn’t immediately evolve into a crime they should still discretely try to take care of the situation. They can also speak to students, parents, and teachers about the dangers of online bullying and the consequences of it.

Voice Thread
Our voice thread was about the life of Albert Einstein.
I picked out the pictures for the voice thread and explained the life of Albert Einstein.
Breanna and Josiah were the other people in my group. They helped pick out the pictures and also helped explain the life of Albert Eistein. All of us had our own lines.
Classmates should look at our voice thread because I think it is well put together and has a lot of interesting information about Albert Einstein.

Voice Thread Comment
World Travels
These pictures were taken of places around the world. The pictures are very cool. They look like they were taken with a good camera and they took pictures of very interesting things.
The person on the voicethread explained the picture very well.
I didn't really like some of the pictures they took but he still explained the pictures very well.
Colour Poetry
The pictures that the person took were pretty interesting. The little kids that were talking about and explaining the pictures were cute.
The kids could have explained the things a little better but overall it was pretty good.
I like voicethread because you are able to explain what the pictures are about and circle things on the screen while you are talking which lets people know exactly what you are talking about.

My Favorite Class
English
Mrs. Weaver is really funny and she makes it easy to learn.
I have a lot of my friends in that class.
I like reading and I’m good at English.
English Class
My favorite thing about school is English class. I like English class because Mrs. Weaver makes it fun and easy to learn. I have friends in my English class so I can talk to them during free time and we help each other. The last reason I like English is because I’m good at it and I like learning about it.
Mrs. Weaver makes it easy to learn because she explains things very well. She answers everyone’s questions and explains them so that every person understands it in their own way. She grades everything with all of the students in mind. If everyone does badly on something she will give all of us another chance to take it and understand it better. Mrs. Weaver makes learning fun but telling jokes to get everyone involved in the discussions. She offers extra help to those who need it and gives everyone an equal opportunity to do well on tests and assignments if they were gone.
Another reason that English is my favorite class is because I have a lot of friends in that class. Mrs. Weaver sometimes gives us time to talk to our friends when we are in between activities. I find it easier to learn when you’re with people you know because you can discuss things with them and ask them questions about what we are learning. Being with people that you know is easier because you don’t feel dumb asking them questions where if you didn’t know them it wouldn’t be as easy to ask them questions.
The last reason that I like English class is because I like to read. We do a lot of reading in English and it gives my ideas of what book I would like to read next. It also shows me different perspectives of people because every author writes different and gives a different message. I like making myself a better reading and enhance my grammar so that I have the tools I need when I grow up to get a good job and know how to talk to people and how to write letters to people.
Those are the reasons I like English class. I like the teacher and how she teaches. I like the having a lot of friends in English class. The last reason English is my favorite class is I like learning about English and reading.

Posters
Microsoft Word Poster
Using these mediums was better than my handmade poster because they were more organized on the computer. I liked on my handmade poster that I could make it look exactly how I wanted it. I could make the handwriting and colors the exact way I wanted it because I was the one drawing it where on the computer there were only a few options I could do.
Glogster Poster
I liked that there were a lot of different options on Glogster. There were a lot more options on glogster, things that I could have drawn or written. I preffered on my handmade poster that it had the exact colors that I picked out but on gloster you have to try to get the colors on the computer and it doesn't always work out how you want it. I think that using the glogster was better than the word processor because it seems that glogster was made for poster making where microsoft word isn't. On microsoft word you had a lot of room to make your poster.
I liked the Glogster the most out of the three mediums. There were a lot of options you could choose from in making your poster, where in microsoft word and your hand poster there weren't as many. I liked that glogster was made for making posters. I also liked that glogster was really easy to use and didn't have very many hard things you had to learn how to run on the site.

Blogger Critique
The things I like about my blogger is that everything is very organized and easy to find. I don't have a lot of extra stuff on my blogger so that people don't get distracted when they're on my blog. I don't like that there's a lot of open space. There is nothing very useful to put in the open spaces of the blogger that won't take the attention away from my blog posts.
